When I first moved to Manchester this was called the Palace, then it became the Principal. Originally it was known as the Refuge Building, but is now the Kimptonl. I have given this picture that name, as this reflects the time I painted it.
 
I was waiting outside the Dance Hall to see John Smith perform one April evening in 2017. I noticed the setting sun catching the Principal and I took a couple of quick photos with my phone. In January 2018 I went back with my sketching stool and drew a couple of pictures that became the structure of this painting. The colours though are from that April evening.
